Fringe Workshop: Stories of the Ancestors – a Day Tour to Avebury and Surroundings

Goddess is the earth, the sacred land we live and walk on. Our Ancestors not only knew that, they lived it. Goddess was part of their World, their daily life… and death. Nowadays we can still feel that deep connection through the many monuments they have left behind in the landscape.

The Stories of the Ancestors tour will give you the opportunity to make that connection by taking you to the ancient sacred landscape of Avebury and surroundings. We will travel by bus to Avebury, where we first will connect with the energy of West Kennet Long Barrow. We will bring offerings to Swallow Head Spring, as they did long ago, and connect with the mysterious Mother mound, Silbury Hill.

After that you will walk over West Kennet Avenue towards the impressive stone circle of Avebury and listen to the story lines which are stored in those ancient sacred stones. Finally we will finish with a honouring of this ancient land and the ancestors who were the living Stories of Avebury in a special ceremony to honour the Grandmothers and the old ways, before turning back to Avalon.

The tour will be held by Alastair Newing:

Alastair NewingWith a lifelong passion for history and an emphasis on what is still known as pre-history, Alastair has explored many ancient and sacred sites through the whole of the UK and beyond. His spiritual path lies in making meaningful connections with our own indigenous ancestors through exploring the significant marks they have left in the natural landscape where we choose to seek themĀ out and imagine the lives they led, the beliefs they may well have held and the expression of those lives in ceremony and ritual. In the last few years he has also become specialised in the Bronze Age and practices ancient technology through creating Bronze Age and other ancient pottery and ceremonial bronze objects. Alastair has also been participating in contemporary ceremony and ritual for more than a decade and over the past seven years has been focusing more and more on the creation of meaningful ceremony inspired by and rooted in the spiritual ancestral past of our British Isles, most often manifested through Green Man Sweat Lodge ceremonies and as Brother of Rhiannon.
